Knit cardigans

Produksee manufactures knit cardigans in Depok, Indonesia — button-front, cropped, and long-line silhouettes in fine to mid gauge. Production covers knit-to-shape and cut & sew construction, contrast collars and plackets, and full trim sourcing, for export and domestic fashion brands.

The problem

A cardigan is judged at the button band. It carries the wearer's eye, it takes the most handling, and it is the first place a badly balanced knit shows itself — the band ripples, the fronts hang unevenly, and the garment looks cheap before anyone has read the label.

Construction

What we control on a cardigan

Button band tension

Knitted at a different tension to the body so it holds its length instead of stretching over the first season. Band and body are blocked together, never separately.

Placket and buttonhole alignment

Buttonhole pitch is set against the finished band length, not the pattern length, so the spacing survives blocking and the fronts close square.

Collar attachment

Contrast collars — the ones in these samples — are the highest-risk detail on the garment. Linked, not overlocked, so the join stays flat under the chin.

Front balance

Left and right fronts are measured against each other before finishing. A 5 mm difference is invisible flat and obvious on a body.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Can you match a cardigan we are already producing elsewhere?

Yes — send the physical garment rather than only the tech pack. We measure it, identify the gauge and yarn count, and knit a counter-sample. Matching from a tech pack alone will get the measurements right and the handfeel wrong.

Do you supply buttons and trims?

Yes. Full trim sourcing is part of OEM production. If you have a nominated trim supplier we work to it instead.

What is the difference between a knit-to-shape and a cut & sew cardigan?

Knit-to-shape panels are knitted to their finished outline and linked together, so there is no cut edge and no seam bulk. Cut & sew panels are cut from knitted yardage, which is faster and cheaper but leaves a seam allowance. The choice changes cost, drape and minimum quantity.
